Carnival at Fort de France, Martinique

I just cannot resist the pleasure of sharing here some pictures with you. We have taken them during the 5 days of Carnival at Fort de France in Martinique.

They have beautiful habits down here, one of them is “courir le vidé” (run to fill the gap): people gather behind a group of percussionists and follow them dancing and chanting. From time to time they stop as the orchestra moves forward and after a while they run at a fast pace in order to “fill the gap” or the distance that separates them from the percussionists in front of them.
